Screening adequacy of unstained thyroid fine needle aspiration samples using a deep learning-based classifier

چکیده

Abstract Fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy of thyroid nodules is a safe, cost-effective, and accurate diagnostic method for detecting cancer. However, about 10% initial FNA samples from patients are non-diagnostic require repeated FNA, which delays the diagnosis appropriate care. On-site evaluation sample can be performed to filter out samples. Unfortunately, it involves time-consuming staining process, cytopathologist has present at time FNA. To bypass process expert interpretation specimens clinics, we developed deep learning-based ensemble model termed FNA-Net that allows in situ screening adequacy unstained smeared on glass slide decrease rate combines two learning models, patch-based whole image classifier Faster R-CNN, detect follicular clusters with high precision. Then, classifies slides if total number detected less than predetermined threshold. With bootstrapped sampling, achieved 0.81 F1 score 0.84 AUC precision-recall curve whose six. We expect dramatically reduce cost associated improve quality patient

Anatomic Pathology / ADEQUACY ASSESSMENT OF THYROID FINE-NEEDLE ASPIRATION

Pathologists and cytotechnologists often provide immediate specimen adequacy evaluation of thyroid fine-needle aspirations (FNAs) to ensure that diagnostic material is obtained. We assessed the cost-effectiveness of this practice. All patients who had a thyroid FNA specimen accessioned at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA, during a 6-month period were included and divided int...

Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology versus Fine Needle Capillary Sampling in Cytological Diagnosis of Thyroid Lesions

Background and Objectives: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is an established out- patient procedure used in primary diagnosis of palpable thyroid lesions. A modified technique fine needle capillary sampling (FNCS) obviates the need of suction, is less painful, patient friendly and reported to overcome the problem of inadequate and bloody specimens. The aim of our study was to compare the...

Combination of aspiration and non-aspiration fine needle biopsy for cytological diagnosis of thyroid nodules

Background: Good cytological sample is very important for the cytological diagnosis of thyroid nodules. The aim of this study was to evaluate the adequacy of prepared samples by the combination of aspiration and non- aspiration fine needle biopsy. Methods: In this descriptive – analytical study, sampling was done simultaneously for each patient in fine needle aspiration and non-aspiration biops...

Fine needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules.

BACKGROUND Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNA) is a routine diagnostic technique for evaluating thyroid nodules. Many reports in adults consider that FNA is superior to thyroid ultrasonography (USG) and radionuclide scanning (RS). Only five studies have been published on FNA of childhood thyroid nodules. AIMS To investigate the reliability of FNA in the evaluation and management of thyroid no...
